Official: AZ Sign Paraguay Under-20 Star Celso Ortiz
The gifted midfielder will move to Holland...
Reigning Eredivisie champions AZ have completed the signing of young midfielder Celso Ortiz from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno for an undisclosed fee.
The Alkmaar outfit expressed their interest in the player last week and didn't need long to wrap up the deal. The 20-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at AZ, and will join his new club on 1 January 2010.
"We're delighted that we have secured the services of Celso Ortiz. He is regarded as one of Paraguay's biggest talents," AZ's technical director Marcel Brands said on the club's official website.
"We could have signed him with immediate effect, but he will represent Paraguay at the World Championships for players under-20 and we would have been unable to use him for about six weeks because of that anyway."
Ortiz will have to compete with Belgian international Maarten Martens for the left midfielder position at AZ.
