Ajax Closing In On Groningen Striker Marcus Berg - Report
The Amsterdam side have reportedly made Berg their primary transfer target...
According to a report in Dutch newspaper De Pers, Eredivisie giants Ajax have reached an agreement with Groningen over the transfer of prolific hitman Marcus Berg.
The 22-year-old has reportedly also attracted the interest of big teams such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Fiorentina, Villarreal and Stuttgart, but Ajax are reportedly sitting in pole position to secure his services.
The Amsterdam side have been linked with the Swedish international for several months already, but Berg's impressive performances at the UEFA Under-21 Championships prompted Ajax to make an offer for the striker.
Groningen have agreed to let go of their star player for a fee of €10.8 million if the report is to be believed. The transfer will be announced as soon as the Pride of the North have signed a replacement for Berg.
However, other reports suggest that Groningen have set a €14 million asking price for Berg and that the striker won't make a decision about his future before the end of the Under-21 Championships.
