According to Omroep Venlo, newly promoted Dutch team VVV are on the verge of signing experienced shot stopper Dennis Gentenaar from Amsterdam giants Ajax.

The 33-year-old joined Ajax from Borussia Dortmund in 2006, but he has made only seven league appearances for the Eredivisie outfit ever since.

Gentenaar is no longer needed at Ajax following the excellent development of talented youngster Kenneth Vermeer and will be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer.

The former NEC star did already undergo a medical test at VVV last Saturday and is expected to sign a three-year deal at the Venlo outfit later this week.

Gentenaar will replace Belgian keeper Kevin Begois as first choice shot stopper at VVV as the Limburg side were unhappy with the latter's performances last term.
