AZ Chase Groningen Star Marcus Berg - Report
The Eredivisie champions are keen to add the striker to their squad...
According to De Telegraaf, Dutch champions AZ are closely monitoring the situation of prolific striker Marcus Berg. The Swedish international currently plays for Eredivisie side Groningen.
AZ are in the market for a new striker due to the possible departure of their current attackers Mounir el Hamdaoui and Moussa Dembele. Both forwards have attracted the interest of a string of bigger clubs and could leave AZ this summer.
The 22-year-old striker is not the only player who is being linked with AZ. The Alkmaar outfit are reportedly also chasing Gent forward Bryan Ruiz.
Nevertheless, the report suggests that they’ve made the Groningen star their primary target. Berg has quickly developed into an indispensable player at Groningen since joining them in 2007.
The Northern side are reluctant to let go of their striker, meaning that AZ won’t get Berg on the cheap. The attacker’s current Groningen deal expires in 2011.
Premier League outfits Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly also keeping tabs on the former Goteborg starlet.
