Celtic have confirmed that they have secured the signing of Nigerian midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim after he was released by Dutch club PSV.

Ibrahim negotiated a mutual termination of his contract in the Netherlands after becoming frustrated with the lack of first-team chances given to him and decided to head Celtic for a trial.

Ibrahim seemingly proved his quality in training, and during the club’s non-competitive match against St Johnstone last week, and will now sign a three-and-a-half year contract, if his work permit application is accepted.

Neil Lennon spoke to the club’s official website about the signing: "We have been very impressed by Rabiu. We are looking forward to him joining us.

"In my view, he is a highly talented and exciting young player and someone who will be a tremendous addition to our squad,

"He is a playmaker, well balanced and a very intelligent footballer."

The player’s agent, Tony Harris, told BBC Sport: "An agreement has been reached with a great club like Celtic, where Rabiu will hopefully develop.

"His potential will hopefully be fulfilled under the close guidance and management of the Celtic coaching staff.

"Neil Lennon is a great manager who encourages young players and subsequently brings the best out of them.

"We had other serious offers from Europe, but I believe Celtic is the best club for him.

"The most important thing is for him to finally settle down and focus on his football."
