Kenny Miller's hat-trick inspired Rangers to a bad-tempered 3-0 victory over Hibernian in their Scottish Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers continued their unbeaten run against Hibernian at Easter Road, stretching it to 14 games over three years in all competitions, despite tempers flaring in the first-half as three yellow cards and two reds were shown.

Miller's 64th minute strike was the highlight of a lively second-half, a welcome change from the chippy play that blighted the opening period.

The game started at a frantic pace as Hibs' Derek Riordan tried to lob Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor from 30-yards, but the attempt dipped harmlessly over the crossbar.

Riordan had another chance for the home side but miskicked and the ball fell for Michael Hart, who tried to set up Anthony Stokes at the far post, but McGregor got just enough of a touch to divert it to safety.

Rangers gradually began to gain more possession but were struggling to create much in the way of clear-cut chances, with Hibs gloveman Mark Brown rarely worked.

Tempers flared in spectacular fashion though as the break neared. In the 43rd minute, Hibs' Kevin McBride went in with a reckless challenge and the resulting loose ball was blasted by Liam Miller straight at Rangers' Kyle Lafferty. He exploded in anger as a melee ensued, with Lafferty and McBride both given their marching orders.

After the restart, both teams finally started playing football. Miller spurned a good chance to give Rangers the lead when his header cleared the crossbar and Hibs' Anthony Stokes misjudged a cross when open in front of the goalmouth.

The Rangers striker finally broke the deadlock though, as Sasa Papac's shot took two deflections and new signing James Beattie was quick to react and laid the ball back for Miller to shoot into the roof of the net.

Fellow new boy Vladimir Weiss had to settle for a place on the bench to start, but was brought on for Beattie in the 66th minute and fed Miller for his second goal.

Maurice Edu nearly added a third in the 88th minute, but the American international's header was tipped over by Hibs 'keeper Brown.

Miller did have just enough time to squeeze in his hat-trick though in the 93rd minute, as a cross found him with plenty of space to shoot past Brown and compound Hibernian's misery.
