Tuesday Night Scottish Cup Review: Rangers Progress
Rangers were amongst the sides that won their way through to the next round of the Scottish Cup last night.
Rangers moved into the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup last night after they defeated First Division leaders St Johnstone in Perth.
An own goal by Stuart McCaffrey after a dreadful error from goalkeeper Alan Main just before the break was a major set-back for the hosts, before Nacho Novo added a crucial second ten minutes from time.
Rangers will now play away in the next round to Forfar Athletic, who thrashed non-league Forres Mechanics 6-1.
St Mirren also secured their place in the last-16 after coming through a difficult away fixture with Division Two promotion chasers Brechin City.
Former Dunfermline Athletic striker Jim Hamilton scored two and Dennis Wyness got on the score-sheet as the Buddies picked up a 3-1 win.
They are now likely to meet Motherwell in the next round, assuming they come through a clash against non-league Inverurie Locos.
Last night's Scottish Cup results:
Brechin City 1-3 St Mirren
Forfar 6-1 Forres Mechanics
St Johnstone 0-2 Rangers
