The 50-year-old insists he has the same hunger and desire to win as some of the top coaches in the game and feels suitably prepared for his side's clash with South Korea

Team GB coach Stuart Pearce is hoping for Olympic glory to prove that he is a top-level manager.

The 50-year-old previously managed Manchester City to little fan-fare before taking England Under-21s to the final of the European Championships and leading Great Britain in their promising London 2012 campaign thus far.

"At this moment in time as a manager I’ve won nothing, I feel as though I’m still learning," Pearce told reporters.

"When the dust settles, and you look at what Sir Alex Ferguson has won and what Arsene Wenger has won, and top managers in the world and you look at their CVs, I’m no different to that – I’m desperate to win, even more so for the players than myself.

"I’d say I’m quite unassuming to when it comes to the accolades being thrown out, I’m not interested in that. I’d rather the players step forward and if they can go home with a medal in their pocket I’d be delighted."

Great Britain will face South Korea in the quarter-finals and Pearce maintained he was confident heading into the clash, and admitted the side were already eyeing a podium place at London 2012.

He insisted: "Our scouts have been at every game and we had a look at them versus Switzerland. We will be thorough in our preparation, no matter who we play.

"We will know enough about them going in to the game that’s for sure. We think we do already, we know it's going to be a tough match for us but it's one we’re relishing.

"Listen, I could lie to you and say that we take one game in isolation. But any other team in the quarter-finals know if they advance to the semi-finals they've got two bites at a medal.

"I’m not just talking about Team GB, three out of the four teams will come away with a medal, that’s a fact. So the magnitude of it won’t crank the pressure up on the squad, they’re acutely aware, they’re professional people but they’re the facts of the matter yes."

Ryan Giggs sat out the side's victory over Uruguay on Wednesday evening, but Pearce confirmed the skipper would be back in contention to face the Taeguk Warriors.

"He is certainly fit and available," he said. "We trained this morning, including the players that didn’t feature or didn’t start. Ryan did the training with no problems at all, so he is up for selection again on Saturday, as are all the other players."

The 50-year-old was speaking on Thursday, as Team GB won gold medals in rowing, shooting and cycling, and admitted he was hoping to contribute to the gold rush.

"It reverberates across the nation," Pearce added. "Whenever a medal is won or a performance or a victory is posted by Team GB. I think it’s been another good day of for us and hopefully there’s many more to come before the end of the Games."
