Switzerland defender Michel Morganella has been expelled from his country's Olympic team after posting a racist message on Twitter.
The 23-year-old wrote a racist tweet targeting South Korenas following his side's 2-1 defeat to the Asian nation on Sunday.
And Morganella, who recently completed a move from Novara to fellow Italian club Palermo, has now been sent home by Swiss Olympic team chief Gian Gilli prior to his side's final group game against Mexico on Wednesday.
"He discriminated against, insulted and violated the dignity of the South Korea football team as well as the South Korean people," said Gill through a translator at a news conference Monday.
Morganella also later issued an apology for his actions, telling reporters: "I made a huge mistake after a disappointing result.
"I wish to apologise to the people in South Korea and their team, but also to the Swiss delegation and Swiss football in general."
Greek triple jumper Voula Papchristou was also recently expelled from the Games due to an outburst on Twitter, despite IOC recommendations that athletes should communicate with their fans.
Morganella made his senior international debut in May, coming on as a substitute during Switzerland's match with Romania.
