thumbnail Hello,

The full-back is desperate to win the tournament with his country and wants to show his appreciation to Roma by helping them win the league next season

Maicon has set his sights on winning the World Cup with Brazil and following it up with a Serie A title with Roma next season.

The right-back was part of the Giallorossi side that fell just short in the Italian title race last season. The capital club impressed but ended up finishing 17 points behind champions Juventus.

The right-back had been overlooked by the national team before finding his form again at Rudi Garcia's side.

The 32-year-old thanked the club for giving him the platform to compete in Brazil, pledging to repay them with a league title next year.

"Now, the World Cup, then the Scudetto with Roma," Maicon told TuttoSport. "I will always thank Roma, they have given me this opportunity, as well as my agent and the fans who have always supported me.

"[Rudi] Garcia was great at building a group, but even there, as here in Brazil, something is missing.

"You never believe you have arrived."

"In England I was lost, unable to make the most of this confidence I felt around me.

"With Roma this happened and, in fact, before the World Cup, I thanked the Giallorossi for helping me get back into the national team."
