The Albiceleste captain's stunning injury-time goal secured the three points for his side but he insists they haven't yet performed to their full potential at this World Cup
Argentina are capable of much better than they showed in their narrow 1-0 win over Iran on Saturday, Lionel Messi has admitted.
The South Americans struggled to break down the tight Iran defence throughout the game before Messi fired them to victory with a magnificent strike from over 20 yards in injury-time.
And the Albiceleste captain admits Saturday's opponents were strong at the back, but says his team are capable of producing far better performances.
"We are first, but we know this level of performance is not as good as we can give," he said after the game.
"Iran closed down well at the back and we really struggled to find space. Still we created a lot of chances.
"Luckily we got the win in the end and got the points, but we have to keep improving."
Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero praised the Barcelona star, saying it was a miracle that they won the game.
