The Azzurri icon feels Cesare Prandelli is capable of setting up his team for success in Brazil and says his country have a world-class defence
The Azzurri have struggled in their friendlies of late, recording a disappointing 1-1 draw with Luxembourg last week.
However, the AC Milan icon believes the former Fiorentina boss will set his team up well in Brazil and says it could become the first ever European side to win the tournament in South America.
"Cesare Prandelli varies his plans according to the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent. It's the sign of a good team, which has the ability to adapt to various formations," he told the Times of India.
"We love playing tactical football. Our opponents know that, yet we have won the World Cup four times. I will not be surprised if we become the first European nation to win it on South American soil.
"Italy under Cesare Prandelli have a strong side and are capable of doing anything. As usual, Gianluigi Buffon will lead from the goal-line.
"Italy have the [good] fortune of producing truly world class goalkeepers and defenders. So Buffon's [defensive] lines will be protected well by [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Andrea] Barzagli, [Leonardo] Bonucci and [Christian] Maggio."
