thumbnail Hello,

Uruguay can't take anything for granted, insists Tabarez

The Copa America holders thrashed Jordan 5-0 in the first leg of their intercontinental play-off but their head coach has vowed to field a strong team for the return clash

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has warned his side not to take their place in the World Cup for granted ahead of the second leg of the intercontinental play-off against Jordan.

The Copa America holders recorded a 5-0 win in the away game last week too all but secure their spot at next summer's finals, but Tabarez has made it clear he will field a strong side for the second leg to ensure they will be on the plane to Brazil.

"We have to take Wednesday's game seriously still, we can't take anything for granted," Tabarez said at a press conference.

"It is still a very important game, therefore we are not going to make a lot of changes. Whenever we play a match, the team we introduce to the pitch depends on who we are playing and the circumstances of that match.

"We are not here to give playing time to the players who don't deserve to be on that pitch. They have to earn those caps and the chance to play by playing well for their teams or when we play friendlies."

Wednesday's return leg takes place in Montevideo.
