Casillas breaks record for number of minutes without conceding for Spain
The Roja captain has gone over 720 minutes without letting in a goal after they beat Belarus 4-0 in 2014 World Cup qualifier
Real Madrid and Spain icon Iker Casillas broke the international record set for the number of minutes without conceding a goal on Friday, having had nine consecutive clean sheets for the national side.Holding the recognition for the original accomplishment of 708 minutes set back in 2008, the 31-year-old went one better on his previous achievement against Belarus, on what was his 141 international appearance.
Casillas has not allowed an opponent since Antonio Di Natale [during Spain's Euro 2012 opener against eventual finalists Italy] to beat him, recording an unprecedented 728 minutes without conceding.
The custodian is also in contention for this year's Ballon d'Or, after a fruitful season that yielded the Primera Division crown and victory in the European finals.
The shot-stoppper appears alongside fellow luminaries such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo.
