Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has been left out of the England team to play San Marino by manager Roy Hodgson with Everton's Leighton Baines deputising at left-back.
The 31-year-old's place in the side had been in doubt in the aftermath of his Twitter row outburst criticising the Football Association following John Terry's independent racism hearing.
Elsewhere, with Steven Gerrard suspended and Frank Lampard injured, Michael Carrick comes into the midfield while Wayne Rooney returns and takes over the captain's armband after missing the qualifying game against Ukraine last month.
Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Gary Cahill also come back into the side following their absence from Hodgson's last starting XI, as James Milner, Jermain Defoe and Joleon Lescott drop to the bench.
The Three Lions are expected to line-up in a 4-4-2 formation with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott on either side on centre-midfield pairing of Tom Cleverley and Carrick, with Rooney and Welbeck leaing the line.
England XI: Hart; Walker, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines; Walcott, Cleverley, Carrick, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Welbeck, Rooney.
Subs: Cole, Ruddy, Lescott, Shawcross, Milner, Shelvey, A Johnson, Lennon, Carroll, Defoe, Forster
