Walcott & Sturridge miss England training ahead of Ukraine clash

The two forwards have pulled out of training after being struck by illness, depleting the national team's striking options even further ahead of their upcoming game at Wembley

England manager Roy Hodgson could be without Daniel Sturridge and Theo Walcott during their World Cup qualifier against Ukraine after both missed training on Monday through illness.

Chelsea forward Sturridge was struck down during pre-season this summer with meningitis, recovering just in time for international duty with Team GB at the Olympic Games, and has struggled to force his way into Roberto Di Matteo's plans so far this term.

At Arsenal, Theo Walcott has become embroiled in a contractual dispute with the club's management this season and has not been a guaranteed starter so far during their opening three league games.

With Andy Carroll already having pulled out of the squad through injury, Hodgson has only Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck and Tottenham man Jermain Defoe as striking options against against Euro 2012 opponents Ukraine.

After thumping Moldova 5-0 in the World Cup qualifying campaign opening game, Oleg Blokhin's side promise to be an altogether more difficult proposition in the game to be held at Wembley on September 11.
