The Japan international, who by all accounts had come to terms with the Serie A side, has already put the collapsed deal behind him as he looks to prove his worth in Moscow
Just one day after his potential move to Serie A outfit Lazio fell apart on the last day of the transfer window, Honda was all smiles as he continued to rehabilitate his right knee in Barcelona.
"My mood's already back to normal," the Samurai Blue star laughed. "When the Lazio conversation ended, I realised what I have to do from now on.
"Right now the only thing in my head is progressing as a CSKA player. [The Lazio deal collapsing] means about as much to me as a fart in the wind."
Italian and Japanese media had reported that the transfer was all but finalised, and the Bianocelesti had even agreed to set aside their number 10 shirt for the attacker.
However on Tuesday, negotiations fell apart when Lazio insisted on paying the €14 million transfer fee in installments and CSKA demanded a lump sum.
Honda, for his part, indicated that another half-season in Russia could be a blessing in disguise.
"As my contract with CSKA starts to run out, more clubs will show their interest," the former VVV Venlo man said. "What I do with this club is directly related to what happens next."
Honda has recently been linked to top European clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Manchester City. The Japan international was also pleased to learn that Lazio are contemplating another go at acquiring him in the European summer.
"As a professional athlete I'm incredibly happy to hear that," he said. "When a club that was interested in acquiring you continues to show interest and value you highly, it's good providence."
The brash playmaker has always been seen as a natural fit for a top European club. While Serie A would have been a perfect fit for the 25-year-old, he remains optimistic for his footballing future.
"It's true that I was looking forward to Italy," Honda reflected. "All I can say is that this time things didn't work out with Lazio.
"But there may be an even brighter future in store for me. My goals haven't changed and I don't intend to change them."
