Vitesse striker Mike Havenaar will not make his Eredivisie debut against NEC on Sunday, if reports from Japanese newspaper Nikkan are to be believed.

The towering attacker only recently joined the club from J-League side Ventforet Kofu, but he is yet to receive his work permit and will have to sit out the weekend derby.

The 24-year-old is of Dutch heritage, but was born and raised in Japan, and is now an integral part of Alberto Zaccheroni's Samurai Blue.

"It's uncertain whether or not [Havenaar] will be able to play on Sunday," Vitesse coach John van den Brom said in a local TV interview.

The Samurai Blue regular made his first appearances for his new club in a 1-2 friendly loss against Schalke last week.
