Country: Liberia
Position: Wide Midfielder
This weekend brings the occasion for which Liberian football fans have been waiting anxiously. The CSKA Moscow winger, Sekou Jabateh Oliseh, is primed to make his debut for the west African nation after turning down the chance to play for Nigeria in favour of representing the land of his birth.
Oliseh has been summoned by the Lone Star coach Bertalan Bicskei after widespread speculation that he would merit a call up from the Nigerian Super Eagles. However, after being inspired by Liberia legend George Weah, the 20-year-old will make his bow against the Warriors of Zimbabwe in Monrovia on Sunday.
Earlier in the week, the Moscow based midfielder revealed to Goal.com, “He (Weah) was a great player and an inspiration for any African player and as such, I had taken him as my role model before even reaching this level."
Nigeria had been hoping to cap the player as he was raised there by the renowned Oliseh football family after arriving from Liberia in his youth. His father is Churchill Oliseh and his uncle is the former World Cup star Sunday. Despite holding a Nigerian passport, Sekou never played for Nigeria at any level, having turned down the chance to play for the Golden Eaglets, Nigeria's under-17 side.

Ready to represent| Liberia and CSKA's Sekou Jabateh Oliseh
Sekou began his career in his adopted homeland, with Ebedei, a club noted for sending talents to Europe; Stephen Makinwa and Obafemi Martins are other graduates from the system. He moved to FC Midtjylland in Denmark but did feature too prominently in the first team before his potential was recognised by Russian giants CSKA. He had a brief spell on loan in 2009 before penning a five-year deal with the club. During the 2010 season, Sekou has broken into the first team plans of Leonid Slutsky, in a position once occupied by Milos Krasic.
CSKA's season has been pockmarked by some ordinary results but the Army Men are still in with a shout for qualification to next season's Champions League. Key to their plans will be Sekou, who cuts a distinctive figure in the line-up since his emergence.
He has pace in abundance, possesses fine dribbling capabilities and is a determined, strong willed component of the team. He contributes key-passes for the Moscow team and has even weighed in with some key goals, despite being used sparingly by the coach to this point. By no means the finished product, Sekou has, nonetheless, the potential to go far.
Oliseh was greeted warmly by fans in Monrovia upon his arrival in the country and is ready to give the Lone Star's chances of qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations a shot in the arm. He has no regrets about turning down a more highly-ranked nation in the shape of the Super Eagles.
“I have my entire family and friends here in Liberia who would love to see me play for our nation, I love Nigeria but I can’t play for them,” he explained to Goal.com.
“Now I am taking a new challenge at a national team level, it’s huge and challenging, it is not going to be easy but with God above I believe success is sure."
