The statistics surrounding this Barcelona team are simply incredible. The Catalan giants have now scored 41 goals in 10 successive La Liga victories since mid-October.

And the only major surprise in their crushing 5-1 local derby win over Espanyol on Saturday night was that Lionel Messi missed out on reaching the scoresheet for only the fourth time in 2010-11 (the last time this happened was against Real Madrid).

The Argentine forward did chip in with yet another fine performance which included two assists after he had missed an early chance when teed up by Dani Alves.

Messi, playing in his now favoured central role, set up Pedro for the opener, had a hand in Barcelona's third and then played in David Villa for the fourth with 15 minutes remaining
