England-Norway Betting Preview: Back Sterling to get new Three Lions era off to a bright start

Perhaps the most exciting of all the youngsters included in Roy Hodgson's new squad, Al Hain-Cole is backing the Liverpool man to continue his fine early season form at Wembley
England will be looking to put their World Cup disappointment behind them when they return to Wembley to take on Norway on Wednesday night.

England-Norway Goalscorer Betting - Paddy Power
Sturridge/Rooney to score anytime 10/11
Welbeck to score anytime 21/10
Sterling to score anytime 23/10
Elyounoussi/Neilsen to score anytime 7/2
Sturridge/Rooney  to score first 7/2
Welbeck to score first 13/2
Sterling to score first 7/1
In an attempt to turn the page, Roy Hodgson has named a number of young players in the starting line-up, with new captain Wayne Rooney wearing the armband for the first time since Steven Gerrard’s international retirement.

Having scored one of his country’s only two goals in Brazil, the Manchester United man is Paddy Power’s joint 7/2 (4.50) favourite to begin a new era by opening the scoring, and available at 10/11 (1.91) to strike anytime.

However, after hitting the back of the net in each of the Three Lions’ last two home games, Daniel Sturridge appears better value at those same 7/2 (4.50) first goalscorer odds, not least the 10/11 (1.91) anytime price.

Meanwhile, Sturridge’s Liverpool team-mate Raheem Sterling is well worth backing at  23/10 (3.30) to open his international account given his fine start to the Premier League season, with odds of 7/1 (8.00) on offer on him breaking the deadlock for the second time in four days for club and country.

In glittering form, Paddy Power’s offer to refund all losing first and last goalscorer bets should the 19-year-old hit the back of the net certainly seems generous.

The second top scorer in an inexperienced squad, Danny Welbeck is priced at 21/10 (3.10) to celebrate his move to Arsenal by grabbing a ninth international goal, or 13/2 (7.50) to strike last after starting on the bench.

Considering they have found the net just seven times in their previous 11 matches, Per Mathias Hogmo’s team should not cause the hosts too many problems, although Tarik Elyounoussi 7/2 (4.50) will be worth keeping an eye on after scoring twice in three games for Hoffenheim so far this season.

Also in Germany, Havard Neilsen’s 7/2 (4.50) three goals in the five opening matches suggest he knows where the goal is, albeit for Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga 2.
