After striking 27 times in 35 La Liga games last season, the former Atletico Madrid man is on offer at 6/5 (2.20) with bet365 to net on his Premier League debut, against Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday, and 15/4 (4.75) to break the deadlock.
Considering he struck twice within seven minutes of his first appearance at Stamford Bridge, in Tuesday’s friendly against Valencia, those anytime odds look like solid value on him opening his official account against the Premier League new boys, while the first goalscorer price also holds some appeal.
The Spain international is unlikely to find service in short supply after the arrival of fellow new signing Cesc Fabregas, who assisted Costa’s first goal of pre-season against Olimpija Ljubljana before twice finding the net in five exhibition matches.
The midfielder scored 15 Premier League goals in his final season for Arsenal before jetting off to Barcelona and is well worth considering at 11/4 (3.75) to mark his return to these shores with a goal, or even 17/2 (9.50) to strike first.
This formidable attacking line-up will cause great concern for Sean Dyche, who must only hope that Danny Ings can translate his prolific form from the Championship to the top flight.
The 22-year-old hit 20 goals in the second tier last campaign but is a relatively long shot at 13/5 (3.60) to find the net at Stamford Bridge, and 8/1 (9.00) to grab a surprise opener.
With regular strike partner Sam Vokes out injured, Ings will probably be playing alongside new signing Lukas Jutkiewicz, whose modest return of 29 goals in the previous four Championship seasons is hardly likely to strike fear in to the hearts of John Terry and Co.
With this in mind, the summer signing from Middlebrough is a 5/1 (6.00) outsider to find the net, and priced at a lengthy 14/1 (15.00) to open the scoring, despite an impressive return of six goals in six pre-season friendlies.
