Betting Special: Fabregas good value to be Chelsea's top scorer

Phil Kitromilides takes a look at the market for the Blues' top marksman for 2014-15 and believes that there could be value in backing the former Arsenal man
That Chelsea remain favorites with the bookmakers to win this season's Premier League title speaks more of the strength in depth that Jose Mourinho has at his disposal than the firepower up front.

Summer signing from Atletico Madrid Diego Costa will bear a lot of responsibility for getting goals and the Spanish international is the 10/11 (1.91) favorite with bet365 to be the Blues' top Premier League scorer.

Top Chelsea Premier League Goalscorer 2014/15

Odds from bet365
Diego Costa 10/11
Edin Hazard 3/1
Andre Schurrle 10/1
Didier Drogba 10/1
Cesc Fabregas 11/1
Fernando Torres 12/1
Odds-on quotes make theoretical sense given the lack of competition he will have for a starting berth, as Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres are unlikely to challenge him for the lone striking role. Romelu Lukaku has moved on too, leaving the new arrival as Chelsea's undoubted first choice No.9.

Costa, though, may take some time to adapt to a new country. His physical prowess will no doubt suit the Premier League, though the pace of the game in England might require some adjustment.

Next in the betting comes Edin Hazard at 3/1 (4.00), with the Belgian hoping to continue his development in what will be his third season in west London. In the previous campaign, he netted 14 times in the league and his contributions will once again be vital.

Hazard, though, was somewhat disappointing in the World Cup, unlike his Blues team-mate Andre Schurrle, who had a decisive impact for Germany, and is offered at 10/1 (11.00) - the same price to be Chelsea's top scorer as Didier Drogba.

For a value bet, however, the price of 11/1 (12.00) for Cesc Fabregas might be worth considering.

In a disappointing campaign for Barcelona last season he still managed 13 goals, and Chelsea's system should suit him more than the Blaugrana's.

In his penultimate season at Arsenal he scored 15 Premier League goals, showing he is more than capable of delivering in the English top flight.

In a market devoid of any standout selections and with question marks over whether Diego Costa will take some time to adjust to his new surroundings, this looks to be a bet that could offer some serious value, especially if Fabregas gets off to a scoring start.
