Germany-Algeria Goalscorer Preview: Gotze the value bet to hit the back of the net

With Thomas Muller on offer at slender odds to add to his prolific World Cup record, Al Hain-Cole sees better value in his Bayern Munich team-mate scoring against Les Fennecs
After seeing Colombia’s James Rodriguez overtake him in the race of the Golden Boot in spectacular style against Uruguay on Saturday evening, Thomas Muller will be particularly keen to get on the scoresheet when Germany take on Algeria in Monday‘s last 16 clash.

Goalscorer Preview

Odds from Paddy Power
Muller to score anytime 8/15
Gotze to score anytime 7/5
Ozil to score anytime 9/5
Slimani to score anytime 7/2
Klose to score last 4/1
Bougherra/Halliche to score anytime 16/1
Having scored four of his side’s seven goals in Brazil so far to bring his record to nine in nine World Cup fixtures, the 2010 joint top scorer is unsurprisingly Paddy Power’s 13/5 (3.60) favourite to open the scoring tonight, and on offer at just 8/15 (1.53) to strike anytime.

However, there is surely better value to be found in backing Mario Gotze to score his second of the tournament as he returns to an attacking line-up in the place of the injured Lukas Podolski.

With seven goals in his last 12 internationals, the Bayern Munich man looks too good to pass up at 7/5 (2.40) to find the net in a match his side are expected to dominate, and is also worth considering at 11/2 (6.50) to break the deadlock.

Needing just one more goal to break the record as the tournament’s top all-time goalscorer, Miroslav Klose offers some temptation at 10/11 (1.91) to score anytime, although as a substitute the 4/1 (5.00) last goalscorer odds seem the most appropriate bet.

Despite finishing as Die Mannschaft’s top scorer in qualification, Mesut Ozil is yet to find the net in Brazil, although can be backed at 9/5 (2.80) to end that barren spell and 13/2 (7.50) to score first.

Ghana’s 2-2 group stage draw with Joachim Low’s men will have given the Algerians some hope that they can find some joy in front of goal once again this evening, having scored in all three fixtures so far.

With this in mind, Islam Slimani represents excellent value at 7/2 (4.50) to find the net for the third consecutive match with a 14th goal in 22 internationals, while bright spark Sofiane Feghouli’s 7/1 (8.00) anytime odds will start to look very generous should Les Fennecs win another penalty.

With Vahid Halihodzic’s men having already proven a threat from set pieces with a couple of headed goals this tournament, centre backs Rafik Halliche 16/1 (17.00 ) and Madjid Bougherra 16/1 (17.00) could also be worth a punt as they flood forwards for corners.

Gotze to score anytime for a 2pt stake at 7/5 (2.40) with Paddy Power
Slimani to score anytime for a 1pt stake at 7/2 (4.50) with Paddy Power
