thumbnail Hello,

With Roy Hodgson giving some squad players a chance for his side's meaningless final World Cup clash, Al Hain-Cole expects the stand-in skipper to lead by example

Having seen his side crash out of the World Cup after just two games, Roy Hodgson has decided to give some of the fringe players a run-out in the final match against Costa Rica.

Goalscorer Preview

Odds from Paddy Power
Sturridge to score anytime 5/4
Lampard/Barkley/Lallana to score anytime 13/5
Sturridge to score first 7/2
Wilshere to score anytime 18/1
Milner to score anytime 20/1
With Wayne Rooney dropping to the bench, Daniel Sturridge will be under additional pressure to lead the line as the lone focal point of the attack.

Having been one of the Three Lions' brightest sparks in a disappointing tournament, the Liverpool striker looks like solid value at 5/4 (2.20) to grab a second goal of the tournament with Paddy Power, or 9/2 (5.50) to open the scoring.

Everton youngster Ross Barkley will hope to provide the creative spark behind his Merseyside rival and can be backed at 4/1 (5.00) to open his account for the Three Lions, or 12/1 (13.00) to strike first.

However, those same odds are also available on Frank Lampard hitting a 30th international goal as he captains the side in Steven Gerrard’s absence for his 106th and final cap.

With the former Chelsea man sure to take all set pieces in a concerted effort to go out on a high, odds of 4/1 (5.00) look like far better value on him finding the net than Barkley, and he should be backed accordingly.

Having been afforded just 30 minutes of match time in Brazil so far, Adam Lallana has been granted more of a chance to prove his quality this afternoon.

After hitting double figures for Southampton last season, the 26-year-old is also an interesting option at 4/1 (5.00) to break his international duck, or 12/1 (13.00) to score first.

Despite his inexperience at this level, Lallana may have to adopt goalscoring responsibility from midfield considering the lack of threat alongside him.

With just one international goal between them, neither Jack Wilshere 18/1 (19.00) nor James Milner 20/1 (21.00) are likely to cause too many problems to a Costa Rica defence that kept out Italy in their last match.

Realistically, although keen to give youth a chance tonight, Hodgson will still be desperate to record a morale-boosting win before heading home, meaning Rooney 9/5 (2.80) may well be called upon from the bench should the team need a goal in the second half.
