Phil Kitromilides explains why the price of 4/5 for the four-time Ballon d'Or winner to find the back of the net in Argentina's opener against Bosnia is simply too good to miss
The diminuitive Argentine has been breaking records at a sensational pace and his historic achievements have seen his price to find the back of the net fall accordingly.
It is not surprising to see him as low as 1/3 (1.33) to score at any time for Barcelona in matches where his side are the overwhelming favourite and more often than not Messi delivers.
It is therefore hugely exciting to see him offered at 4/5 (1.80) by bet365 to score at any time in Argentina's opening World Cup fixture against Bosnia.
Logic dictates that this is a price simply too goo to turn down in terms of value. Like Barcelona are in almost every game they play, Argentina are massive favourites to win.
Bosnia are an exciting but inexperienced side and Messi will relish the chance to torment their defenders.
It is worth bearing in mind that, like he does for his club, Messi takes penalties and free-kicks for the national side, thus making his chances of scoring even greater.
His fellow forwards Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero are offered at 8/5 (2.60) and 7/5 (2.40) respectively to find the back of the net, while bolder punters may be tempted by the price of 11/4 (3.75) for Messi to open the scoring.
Yet for sheer logical value there can be no better bet than Messi to score at any time at 4/5 (1.80) a price which will be considerably shorter in Argentina's next two games against Iran and Nigeria.
What's more, bet365 have extended their Bore Draw Money Back offer which will now see all losing first/last and anytime goalscorer bets refunded if the match finishes 0-0. That's on top of the existing markets which include correct score and half time/full time.
