Chile - Australia Betting Preview: Why the South Americans can win comfortably

With an attacking side and an excellent scoring record Phil Kitromilides believes Chile should easily win their opening game against an uninspiring Australia team
In a group that promises to be extremely competitive Chile know they must get off to a winning start against their weakest opponent Australia before upcoming games with Netherlands and Spain.

The South Americans play a particularly attractive and fast paced brand of football and should be able to, not only comfortably overcome their Antipodean rivals, but give the two European big guns in Group B a real run for their money. They have been touted as real contenders for the latter stages by some, who have taken the 40/1 (41.0) or bigger on them to win the tournament.

Chile understandably are massive favorites against the Socceroos priced at 9/20 (1.45) for the win by bet365 while Australia are offered at 8/1 (9.00) in what would be a massive upset.

In qualifying for the World Cup, Chile finished extremely strongly unbeaten in the final six games of which they won five.

During that run they scored at least twice in every game, while in friendly matches over the last year Jorge Sampaoli's side have impressed.

They were seconds away from beating Spain in September before conceding in injury time to draw 2-2, while they comfortably overcame England 2-0 at Wembley in November and only narrowly lost out 2-1 to Brazil five days later so punters should be confident in a side that have demonstrated how these players handled themselves against opposition much superior to Friday's opponents.

This is a side with real pace and skill with Alexis Sanchez and Edu Vargas forward players of the highest quality.

Against them, Australia will almost certainly be out of their depth, and backing a comfortable win for Chile looks a simple enough selection.

They are offered at a generous looking 13/10 (2.30) to win with a -1 goal handicap and given their formidable attacking prowess and Australia's questionable defence (24 goals conceded in 9 matches) Chile should be able to win their opening match by at least two clear goals.
