Leyton Orient-Rotherham Betting Preview: High-scoring final in store at Wembley

As the second and third top-scorers in League One coming face to face in the play-off final on Sunday, Al Hain-Cole is expecting plenty of goalmouth action in an exciting match
Rotherham United will be hoping to return to the Championship after a nine-year absence with a second consecutive promotion when they take on Leyton Orient in Sunday’s League One play-off final.

After finishing the normal season in fourth place, the newly-promoted Millers recorded a 4-2 aggregate semi-final victory over Preston North End to reach Wembley, where they are 13/10 (2.30) favourites with William Hill to come out on top.

Russell Slade’s men surprised everyone by leading the league for most of the first half of the season before falling away into third place and are now 21/10 (3.10) underdogs to secure promotion with a victory in the final.

Only one of the last seven League One play-off finals have gone into extra-time, but you can get odds of 3/1 (4.00) on this one remaining all square after 90 minutes.

With all due respect to beaten semi-finalists Peterborough and Preston, it is probably fitting that the showpiece final will be played out between the teams that finished equal on points in third and fourth place.

With only champions Wolves hitting the back of the net more times than this pair in the regular season, the O’s finished ahead of their opponents by virtue of a better defensive record, although this is sure to be tested against Steve Evans’ men.

Last month’s 6-4 defeat at Molineux was a prime example of Evans’ adventurous approach to the game, with the Scot always seemingly confident that his team can score more than the opposition.

Considering the finalists have failed to score just 12 times in 96 League One games between them so far, and with only three clean sheets to their name in the previous 20 combined fixtures, odds of 7/10 (1.70) seem like a no brainer on both sides finding the net when they come face to face.

With nine goals to his name in the last 11 matches, Kieran Agard poses probably the greatest threat to Orient’s backline and is well worth backing at 6/5 (2.20) to hit a 27th goal of the season, particularly given his responsibility from the penalty spot.
