Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid Betting Preview: Why an early goal looks unlikely in Lisbon

Spanish tipster Phil Kitromilides believes we are in for a keenly contested affair in the first ever cross-city Champions League final meaning no goals in the opening 29 minutes
History will be made in Lisbon on Saturday night as for the first time in the history of the Champions League two sides from the same city contest the final.

It is perhaps fitting that the city in question is Madrid, the capital of Spain, the nation which has dominated international football over the last few years.

Real Madrid head into the game with history and prestige on their side seeking their 10th European Cup and the world's biggest club are the 10/11 (1.91) favorites with Paddy Power to win in 90 minutes.

Yet Atletico are the newly crowned champions of Spain, and while this is only their second appearance in a European Cup final and the first for 40 years, we have learned throughout the course of the season never to underestimate the sense of self belief that coarses through Diego Simeone's side.

Paddy Power price them as 16/5 (4.20) outsiders while the draw is offered at 5/2 (3.50).

While this is the first encounter between the two sides in a European final, they have already met four times this season, twice in the league and twice in the Copa del Rey.

Atletico triumphed 1-0 at the Bernabeu and perhaps deserved more than a 2-2 draw at the Calderon in La Liga, while in the cup Madrid won 5-0 on aggregate producing some of their best football of the season.

Expect Saturday's match however to be extremely tight though, with both sides missing key personnel and as well as both being fully aware of the monumental significance of victory.

The bookmakers certainly anticipate a low scoring encounter with under 2.5 goals offered at just 4/6 (1.65) while three or more goals can be backed at 11/10 (2.10).

However, perhaps of more interest will be the price of evens (2.00) for the opening goal to come after 29 minutes, which in a tight final looks an excellent bet.

These two sides know each other extremely well and they know how to nullify the threat posed by the other. This bet has paid out in each of Atelti's last four Champions League games away from the Vicente Calderon and while Real Madrid have been prolific in this season's competition, the final match of the tournament looks set to be supremely tight.
