The 35-year-old defender will leave Old Trafford this summer after 12 years at the club and Paddy Power make him a 4/6 chance to ply his trade in the MLS nextThere have been plenty of headlines written about departures at Manchester United in the last year, starting with Sir Alex Ferguson, moving onto David Moyes and Nemanja Vidic in recent months. However, the departure of Rio Ferdinand from Old Trafford has come as something of a surprise.
|Rio Ferdinand's Next Club
|Odds from Paddy Power
|Any MLS Club||4/6|
|West Ham United||9/2|
|Queens Park Rangers||5/1|
Paddy Power expect Ferdinand to follow the likes of Jermain Defoe in swapping the Premier League for the MLS as he enters the twilight years of his career.
That's a move that's priced at just 4/6 (1.67) by the bookmaker and could be seen as a natural progression given the potential commercial opportunities for Ferdinand's businesses outside football and the increasing willingness of teams such as Toronto to pay sizable wages for ex-Premier League players and valuable loan deals for the likes of Julio Cesar.
Ferdinand's career began at West Ham United in 1992 and he spent eight years with the Hammers working his way through their famed academy and into the first team before his big money move to Leeds United in 2000. A move back to Upton Park is available at 9/2 (5.50) with Paddy Power.
Harry Redknapp worked closely with Ferdinand during their time at West Ham and after the 67-year-old guided his QPR side to the Championship play-off final the R's have been cut to 5/1 (6.0) to be Ferdinand's next club. That price doesn't seem to appeal given the uncertainty about QPR's potential return to the top flight and Redknapp's future if they were to lose to Derby County in the final.
Paddy Power offer a trio of Turkish clubs at 12/1 (13.0) to be Ferdinand's next destination (Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce) with Arsenal available at 16/1 (17.0).
A big money move to Monaco is available at 33/1 (34.0), while any A League club is listed at 20/1 (21.0).
