thumbnail Hello,

These two heavyweights have a history of serving up entertaining encounters, and Al Hain-Cole expects plenty of goalmouth action when they come face to face on Friday

Friday’s most high profile international friendly takes place in Milan, where Italy take on Germany at San Siro.

Despite winning three of the last five encounters with their great rivals without tasting defeat, the Azzurri are slight outsiders at 17/10 (2.70) with Betway to come out on top this time out.

Joachim Low’s men dropped just two points in 10 games during their recent World Cup qualification campaign and, as a result, they are on offer at 29/20 (2.45) to pick up their first win on Italian soil in 27 years.

Two of the last three meetings between these opponents have resulted in draws after 90 minutes, and there are odds of 12/5 (3.40) available from Betway on them cancelling each other out again here.

There is a plaque hanging outside the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City commemorating the ‘Game of the Century’ played out between these two teams at semi-final of the 1970 World Cup, which finished 4-3 after extra-time.

While it would be unrealistic to expect a repeat of that dramatic fixture to be played out once again on Friday, there is enough to suggest that this exhibition should be well worth the entrance fee.

No European team scored more than the 36 goals Die Mannschaft managed to put away in their 10 qualifiers, and they have now gone five games since failing to hit the back of the net at least three times, with almost exactly a year having passed since they last failed to score two or more.

Meanwhile, Cesare Prandelli has well and truly shrugged off the defensive stereotypes surrounding Italian football to see his side score 20 and concede 19 in their last 11 fixtures.

Germany’s last three friendlies have reaped an eye-catching 19 goals, while Italy have seen 15 scored in their last four, meaning a quote of even money (2.00) is surely too generous to pass up on at least three going in when they go head-to-head on Friday.

That bet would have paid out in 19 of the visitors’ last 20 matches, as well as nine of the hosts’ last 11 in all competitions.
