Jose Mourinho has labelled this match a "must-win" after his side's opening defeat at home to Basel and Al Hain-Cole expects them to ease to victory against their modest opponents
Jose Mourinho has declared that nothing less than a win will do for his side’s qualification hopes, and they are clear 7/10 (1.70) favourites with Betway to step up to their manager’s challenge with all three points in Romania.
The hosts have only ever won two of their 18 group stage matches on home soil, losing 13, and are up against it at 4/1 (5.00) to secure their first home victory in 16 years this evening.
Laurentiu Reghecampf’s men drew both of their home ties in qualifying for this year’s competition, and you can get odds of 5/2 (3.50) on them claiming a share of the spoils once again here.
As Mourinho pointed out, losing an opening group game is far from ideal as it puts the team on the back foot from the very start of the campaign, particularly when the defeat comes at home.
However, Blues fans can take solace in the relatively easy make-up of their group, as their side are more than capable of putting things right in their remaining fixtures, starting with tonight.
Ros-Albastrii are making their first appearance in this competition in five years, and their meek 3-0 defeat away to Schalke in the first game suggests they could be set for a repeat of their last two campaigns, when they finished bottom of the group with just a single point to their name on both occasions.
Considering Mourinho’s desperate need for a win and the quality at his disposal, it is difficult to see this match resulting in anything other than an away win, making those 7/10 (1.70) odds look actually rather generous.
Although one reason for Chelsea’s optimism should be the form of Juan Mata after being brought in from the cold over the last two games, it would be no surprise if the real match-winner was the man keeping him out of his preferred No. 10 position.
In terms of a value bet, with six goals in seven Champions League games, Oscar really seems to come alive in this competition, and is well worth backing at 9/4 (3.25) to hit the back of the net against Steaua.
