The two Rovers meet in the League Cup semi-final this evening with a place against Drogheda United up for grabs in the final and our tipster is backing few goals
With the teams having met twice already this season in the league, with both games finishing in draws, everything points to a tight affair again this evening.
Shamrock come into this match in a patchy spell of form, having lost their last three matches. Stephen Kenny’s men have only found the net once in their last four matches, with a recently loss to St Patrick’s all but ending their chances of finishing in the top four.
However, after beating Dundalk and St Patrick’s in the League Cup, their chances of silverware in this campaign are still alive. Paddy Power price them at 13/8 (2.63).
Sligo have it still all to play for in the league, but were knocked out of the Champions League qualifying after losing to Molde in recent weeks over two legs.
Ian Baraclough's side have cruised through the League Cup so far, beating Mervue United 4-0 and Limerick 4-0 away from home. Paddy Power also price Baraclough’s men at 13/8 (2.63) and cannot separate the sides in terms of the match odds. The same firm price the draw at 11/5 (3.20).
Although a tight match looks to be in prospect, the under 2.5 goals market, at 4/7 (1.57) with William Hill is worth avoiding as it appears to offer very little value at such a short price.
A better bet would be to back "No" on the both teams to score market at 4/5 (1.80) with the same firm.
This bet would have paid out in three of Shamrock's last four, as well as four of Sligo’s last five. The last time these two sides met, the game finished 0-0 and with both sides eager for silverware this season, expect a tight encounter with defences dominating.
