thumbnail Hello,

Dougie Freedman's side travel to take on Sean Dyche's men in the opening fixture of the Championship season and Willie Duncan expects a tight encounter at Turf Moor

The Championship season gets underway this weekend and one of the most intriguing fixtures of the opening round of fixtures takes place at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon when Burnley play host to Bolton Wanderers.

The Trotters missed out on a play-off place last season by virtue of goal difference and Dougie Freedman’s men are chalked up as 6/4 (2.50) favourites with Coral to get off to a flying start by claiming all three points this weekend.

Burnley, though, will have promotion aspirations of their own this term and the home side are available at 7/4 (2.75) with Coral to open the new campaign with a victory on home turf. The draw can be backed at 23/10 (3.30) with the same firm.

Bolton’s away record last season was, arguably, the primary reason why the Trotters failed to make the play-offs, with Dougie Freedman’s side winning just four of their 23 matches on the road.

Freedman will be hoping that the acquisition of striker Jermaine Beckford can prove pivotal in Bolton’s promotion push this season and the 29-year-old forward is chalked up as a 6/1 (7.0) chance with Coral to open the scoring on Saturday afternoon.

Burnley will be without the services of last season's star striker Charlie Austin who sealed a move to Championship rivals QPR earlier in the week.

The 24-year-old striker bagged an astonishing 28 goals in 40 games for the Clarets last season and will be sorely missed in the Clarets line up this campaign and his absence could be keenly felt in this match.

There is sure to be plenty of passion on show but the opening round of fixtures are often cagey affairs and it is unsurprising that Coral go just 7/10 (1.70) that fewer than three goals are scored when these two sides go head-to-head.

With a vociferous home crowd behind them, Burnley may come out of the traps quickly and there is value in backing the Clarets to lead at half-time at 11/5 (3.20) with Coral.

However, Burnley may not be able to hold the advantage and the sizeable 14/1 (15.0) quote from Coral for Sean Dyche’s side to lead at half-time and the match to be level at full-time is excellent value for those looking to back bigger prices and is worth a smaller investment.
