The 29-year-old striker became Roberto Martinez's first signing for Everton on Monday and Willie Duncan assesses how the Ivorian will fare on his debut season at Goodison Park
Kone played under Martinez at Wigan Athletic last season but, following the Latics’ relegation to the Championship, both player and manager have moved on and will be reunited in Merseyside for season 2013/14.
Martinez clearly rates the Ivorian front man, who scored 11 goals in 34 league appearances for Wigan last season, and the 39-year-old Spanish boss will be hoping for, at least, a similar return from Kone, having spent £6.5 million to bring him to Goodison Park.

Reaching double figures appears to be a realistic enough benchmark for the Ivorian striker given that Marouane Fellaini, Everton’s top scorer during the last campaign, managed just 11 goals in the Premier League while Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic bagged just seven league goals last term.
Everton fans, though, will hope that the acquisition of Kone will add a new dimension to the Toffees’ attacking play and those who believe that the 29-year-old can make a big impact for Roberto Martinez’s men will be tempted by BetVictor’s 6/4 (2.50) quote for the Ivorian to score 12 or more Premier League goals.
Everton managed just 55 goals in 38 Premier League matches last term, the fewest of the league’s top-seven but the appointment of Martinez as manager may see the Toffees play a more attractive brand of football than they did under the Spaniard’s predecessor, David Moyes.
Kone could be key to Martinez’s plans and if the striker can recreate the form that he showed at Wigan last term, there is little doubt that double figures is well within reach for the classy Ivorian.
With that in mind, the 10/11 (1.91) quote from BetVictor for Kone to hit double figures in the Premier League next season represents excellent value and should be backed accordingly.
