Portland Timbers-Dallas Betting Preview: Draw specialists set for another stalemate

Dallas are hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference but Willie Duncan expects a tight affair when Schellas Hyndman's men face Caleb Porter's side
There is a crunch clash at the top of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference this weekend, as league leaders Dallas look to extend their advantage at the summit when they travel to take on third-placed Portland Timbers on Saturday night.

Schellas Hyndman’s side sit one point clear of Real Salt Lake at the top of the Western division with two games in hand and can strengthen their grip at the top with victory this weekend. The Hoops are chalked up as a 2/1 (3.0) chance with Coral to claim all three points from what looks to be a tricky assignment.

Caleb Porter’s side can move within two points of the league leaders should they emerge victorious this weekend – a prospect rated as an 11/10 (2.10) chance with Coral – while the same firm go 9/4 (3.25) that the match ends in stalemate.

Dallas have been at their imperious best on home turf this term, dropping just two points from eight home fixtures, but Schellas Hyndman’s men have won just one of their six away matches thus far this season and that patchy away form will give the Timbers real cause for optimism here.

Both sides have scored in all 14 of their league games during the season so far and, with that in mind, it comes as little surprise to see Coral go just 8/13 (1.62) that both teams hit the target this weekend.

Three of the last four meetings between the sides ended in a 1-1 draw while it is worth noting that three of Dallas’ four draws in the western conference this season have come on their travels.

Furthermore, Portland have claimed no fewer than eight draws from their 14 league matches so far this term – more than any other side in Major League Soccer’s two divisions – and draw backers may well find themselves rewarded once again this weekend.

Therefore, the 9/4 (3.25) quote on offer from Coral for the match to end level is the recommended play, while the 11/2 (6.50) shot from the same firm for a fourth 1-1 draw in five meetings to be the final outcome is the value bet here.
