thumbnail Hello,

Luiz Felipe Scolari's men cruised to victory over France last weekend and Willie Duncan is backing the hosts to enjoy another comfortable win over Alberto Zaccheroni's side

Japan became the first team to qualify alongside hosts Brazil for World Cup 2014 and Alberto Zaccheroni’s men will begin their preparations for next summer’s showpiece when they face Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side in Saturday’s Confederations Cup curtain-raiser in Brasilia on Saturday night.

Brazil are chalked up as strong favourites to get their campaign off to a winning start and can be backed at 2/7 (1.29) with William Hill to see off the challenge of Zaccheroni’s side this weekend.

Japan are available at a chunky 7/1 (8.0) with William Hill to claim a shock victory here while the same firm go 3/1 (4.0) that the tournament opener ends in stalemate.

The Selecao warmed up for this tournament in fine style, claiming an emphatic 3-0 victory over France last weekend. But that win was just the second of Scolari’s second reign as Brazil boss and the 64-year-old will be desperate to see his side enjoy a fine tournament to relieve the pressure ahead of hosting World Cup 2014.

Scolari's men have been typically free-scoring in recent matches, notching 11 goals in their last four games and there is a suggestion that Brazil may be finding form at just the right time to enjoy a successful Confederations Cup campaign on home soil.

Brazil thumped Japan 4-0 when these sides met in a friendly match back in November and, should Scolari’s men find their groove in front of a fervent home support on Saturday, it could well prove to be a long and difficult night for Alberto Zaccheroni’s side.

With that in mind, the Selecao are chalked up at a hugely appealing 15/8 (2.88) to win minus two goals in William Hill’s handicap market, while the 4/6 (1.67) quote for Brazil (-1) in the same market also looks sure to be a popular play with punters.

Barcelona striker Neymar was Japan’s tormentor-in-chief in November, netting twice in that victory and the 21-year-old appears to represent good value at 3/1 (4.0) to bag the opening goal of the game on Saturday and that price should be snapped up accordingly here.
