Ottmar Hitzfeld's side have made a solid start in their quest to reach World Cup 2014 and our tipster is backing the home side to pick up another three points this weekendSwitzerland top World Cup qualifying Group E at the halfway stage and Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side will look to further enhance their chances of participating in next summer’s showpiece event in Brazil when they take on struggling Cyprus on Saturday afternoon.
The Swiss are unbeaten in qualifying so far, having won three and drawn two of their five fixtures thus far and are, unsurprisingly, chalked up as red-hot 1/7 (1.14) favourites with William Hill to claim another three points when they host Nikos Nioplias’ side this weekend.
The visitors have garnered just four points from their opening five qualifying fixtures and can be backed at a chunky 11/1 (12.0) with William Hill to emerge victorious from Saturday’s tussle while the same firm go 5/1 (6.0) that the match ends in a draw.
The group leaders were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw when these two sides met in Cyprus back in March and Hitzfeld will be hoping that the memory of that result will inspire his side to victory this time around.
This assignment looks to be far tougher for Nioplias’ side and, despite the skinny prices in the win-draw-win market, those who dig a little deeper can find the value in backing the hosts to claim the spoils.
It is worth noting that despite their lofty position in the group, Switzerland have not been free-scoring throughout qualifying thus far, having scored just seven goals in their five Group E fixtures.
Swiss success has been built on solid defence, with Hitzfeld’s men having kept four clean sheets in five qualifying ties so far and the 6/10 (1.60) quote from William Hill for the hosts to win to nil certainly appeals here.
Switzerland should prove too strong for the Group E minnows but goals may prove hard to come by and William Hill’s generous 15/8 (2.88) quote for the hosts to win a match featuring fewer than three goals is outstanding value and should be snapped up accordingly.
Those looking for bigger prices may be tempted by William Hill’s correct score market and, given that all three of Switzerland’s wins during this campaign thus far have come by virtue of a 2-0 victory, the 9/2 (5.50) quote for that scoreline to be repeated once again on Saturday is sure to prove popular with punters.
