The most lucrative game in football takes place today between Watford and Crystal Palace, with our tipster taking a look at who could be the hero of the day
|PLAY-OFF FINAL FIRST GOALSCORER
Matej Vydra started the season like a steam train, certainly making his mark on English football. The Czech striker has 22 goals this season in the league, scoring two in the play-off semi final versus Leicester City. The player on loan from Udinese had gone 13 games without finding the back of the net before his double earlier this month. Vydra is joint favourite at 4/1 (5.00) with Coral to open the scoring.
His strike partner, Troy Deeney, who took all the headlines with his 97th minute goal against Leicester which took Watford to Wembley, has netted 20 goals this season. The 24 year-old is also 4/1 (5.00) to score first, but the price of evens (2.00) with Coral for him to net anytime seems like a fantastic price. Deeney has scored four goals in his last four appearances, so this would be a price tough to ignore.
Almen Abdi, another Udinese loanee, has been a revelation for Waford this season. From midfield, the 26 year-old has found the net 12 times, including two in his last five. Abdi has also netted in both league matches against Crystal Palace this season, and the price of 8/1 (9.00) for him to open the scoring is certainly worth investing in.
Looking at Crystal Palace, they were dealt a huge blow in their play-off semi-final first leg as Glenn Murray had to be stretchered off the field after turning awkwardly from a corner. Murray had been outstanding this season, scoring 30 goals in the league, and could prove a huge miss in the final. Ian Holloway will have to rely on next-highest scorer, Manchester United-bound Wilfried Zaha, who has netted eight this season, including two versus Brighton in the play-off second leg. Zaha is 7/1 (8.00) with Coral to score first.
Holloway will also be relying on an old face to potentially do the damage against Watford. Kevin Phillips, who signed for Palace on-loan from Blackpool earlier this season, has scored six goals in 15 appearances and is likely to play a part in the final today. The 39 year-old has produced the goods when needed for his manager and is 13/2 (7.50) with Coral to open the scoring.
