Brazil-Russia Betting Preview: Expect plenty of goals at Stamford Bridge

Two familiar managerial faces return to London for a high-profile international friendly, and Al Hain-Cole thinks that their teams should provide plenty of entertainment
Former Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari returns to Stamford Bridge for the first time this evening, as his Brazil side take on Fabio Capello’s Russia in a friendly.

The Russians were left frustrated after their World Cup 2014 qualifier against Northern Ireland was cancelled due to heavy snow in Belfast, while their opponents let a two-goal lead slip in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Italy on Thursday.

Both will therefore be determined to record a morale-boosting win, and the Selecao are unsurprisingly favourites at 4/7 (1.57) with Bet365 to come out on top.

However, Capello’s men have not lost in seven games since the former England boss took over, and are more than capable of springing a surprise at 5/1 (6.00).

Alternatively, you can get odds of 14/5 (3.80) on the match finishing up in a crowd-pleasing draw.

No team is more synonymous with attacking football than next year’s World Cup hosts, and Neymar and Co. are more than capable of breaching a defence that is yet to concede a single competitive goal under their new Italian boss.

The USA’s two goals back in November demonstrate that the Sbornaya can be punished under relaxed exhibition conditions, and their opponents’ recent friendly fixtures suggest that there will be no shortage of goalmouth action tonight.

A bet on both teams to score would have paid out in each of Brazil’s last four games, and considering the sides have only failed to hit the back of the net once in their last 22 combined games, odds of 5/6 (1.83) look too good to miss for that market here.

In fact, despite Scolari’s men’s unimpressive defensive record, the Russian attackers are very generously priced to get on the score sheet, and none more so than Roman Shirokov.

The Zenit St Petersburg midfielder was his country’s top scorer of 2012, and has scored in each of the last three games, making him a veritable coup at 5/1 (6.00) to grab a goal this evening.
