Deportivo La Coruna-Celta Vigo Betting Preview: Why the Galician derby will see over 2.5 goals

Deportivo La Coruna-Celta Vigo Betting Preview: Why the Galician derby will see over 2.5 goals

Our La Liga expert Phil Kitromilides believes the meeting between two of Spain's oldest rivals will see at least three goals scored on Friday evening

They say you can never really tell what a Galician is thinking, but in the case of the 30,000 Gallegos crammed into the Riazor on Friday night, their collective thoughts should be pretty clear: we badly need to win this game!

Both of the sides from Spain's most north westerly region have been massively disappointing this season, with Celta only marginally less abysmal than their counterparts from 130 kilometres up the road in la Coruna.

Galician derbies are usually extremely tense and intense affairs, normally played in the driving rain characteristic of the region, yet Friday's game will have an added edge of desperation to it, with the home side in particular knowing defeat would all but mathematically consign them to relegation.

Bet365 price a home win at 13/10 (2.30) while Celta are offered at 21/10 (3.10) and the draw offered at 23/10 (3.30).

These two eternal enemies occupy the last two places in La Liga thanks to a woeful run of form which has seen Celta win just one of their last 13 games, and Depor earn a solitary victory in a miserable run of 17 league matches.

It is fair to say then that neither of these two sides can truly be relied upon to be backed out right, although the draw at 23/10 (3.30) looks a good shout for a value bet.

But with neither side seemingly capable of defending, backing over 2.5 goals in the game at evens (2.00) is where the wise money should be invested. League games involving Depor have so far this season, averaged 3.22 goals with the side managing just five clean sheets in their 27 matches.

Furthermore, over 2.5 goals has proved the correct selection in six of their last eight games. Celta for their part have scored in each of their last four games, with this bet paying out in each one of those matches. In a game that neither side can afford to lose, at least three goals being scored looks likely.
