Hibernian-St Johnstone Betting Preview: Hosts offer good value to edge tight encounter

Hibernian defeated Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup last weekend to book their place in the last eight of that competition and Pat Fenlon’s men will look to follow up by claiming their first league victory of 2013 when they entertain Steve Lomas’ side at Easter Road on Monday night.The Hibees were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Premier League basement boys Dundee in their only home league fixture of 2013 so far but they are chalked up as William Hill’s 6/4 (2.50) favourites to claim all three points when the Saints visit the capital.
Steve Lomas’ side have won just one of their last seven league matches on the road and they are available at a chunky 15/8 (2.88) with William Hill to taste victory in Edinburgh while the same firm go 11/5 (3.20) that the match ends in a draw.Leigh Griffiths is Hibs’ top scorer this term with 15 league goals and can be backed at a tempting 4/1 (5.0) to score first in this match while William Hill’s special “headline offer” of 3/1 (4.0) that the striker hits the target at any time in a Hibs win is sure to attract plenty of support.
Saints striker Steven MacLean is chalked up at 13/2 (7.50) with William Hill to score first in this encounter while William Hill’s “headline offer” for the visitors sees MacLean available at 5/1 (6.0) to score at any time in an away win.
It is worth noting that Hibernian have scored just four goals in their last eight matches so it comes as little surprise to see William Hill offer just 13/20 (1.65) that fewer than three goals are scored in Monday night’s clash.
The Hibees, though, have also lost just three of their 12 home league games so far this season and, therefore, the 8/11 (1.73) quote from William Hill for Hibs in the draw no bet market carries considerable appeal here while those seeking greater value should consider the tempting 13/2 (7.50) from the same firm for Hibs to edge a 1-0 win in what seems certain to be a tight match.
