thumbnail Hello,

Following speculation that the Blues could be about to offer the 33-year-old an extension to his current contract at Stamford Bridge, Jim Knight takes a look at the latest odds

It seemed that Frank Lampard was set to be one of this summer's highest-profile free agents but a number of eye catching displays may have forced the powers that be at Stamford Bridge to reconsider their stance on not renewing the 33-year-old's contract.

WIlliam Hill offer a tempting 4/7 (1.67) about Lampard being a Chelsea player on the first day of next season.

His 10 goals in 17 Premier League appearances mean Lampard is Chelsea's joint-leading scorer for the season, tied with Juan Mata and his winning goal for the England national side against Brazil only reinforced the theory that the Blues could be about to lose a player who can still compete, and excel, at the highest level.

Chelsea fans have been vocal in their support of the midfielder, who has spent more than a decade at Stamford Bridge and has scored 197 goals for the south west London club - just five fewer than all-time leading scorer Bobby Tambling and another season with the Blues would surely see him surpass that record, were he not to do so before the end of the current campaign.

William Hill also offer 5/4 (2.25) that Lampard fails to reach an agreement with the club and leaves before the start of the 2013/14 season, although that price holds less appeal considering Ashley Cole recently put pen to paper on a new one year extension.

Although Cole is 32, two years younger than Lampard, the decision to offer him another year could indicate a change in Roman Abramovich's stance on such issues.

Cole received his 100th England cap against Brazil while Lampard is still six games short of that milestone, and Roy Hodgson expressed his desire to keep Lampard in England, if not Europe, so that he could continue to represent his country on a regular basis.

The England boss also warned against a move to the United States of America, following in the footsteps of David Beckham. William Hill also offer 2/5 (1.40) that Lampard is included in the final England World Cup squad for Brazil 2014, the same firm go 7/4 (2.75) that he isn't in the squad.

The 4/7 (1.67) on offer from William Hill could prove a profitable proposition given Lampard's impressive recent form and continued importance to the Blues squad, despite the arrival of several midfielders in the summer.
