Arsenal - Liverpool Betting Preview: Back the hosts to edge an exciting encounter
Brendan Rodgers' men crashed out of the FA Cup at the weekend and Willie Duncan is predicting more misery for the Reds when they face the Gunners on Wednesday night
Just three points separate Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League table and Arsene Wenger’s men will be keen to extend that gap to six when the two sides meet at the Emirates on Wednesday night.Arsenal, who are Coral’s 5/4 (2.25) favourites to claim victory, were in imperious form as they came from a goal behind to record a thumping 5-1 victory over West Ham last Wednesday, while the Gunners showed character to avoid an FA Cup banana skin with a battling 3-2 victory over Brighton at the weekend.
For Liverpool, though, there was no such solace as they were unable to build on a 5-0 Premier League victory over Norwich City. As a result, Brendan Rodgers watched his side slump to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Oldham in the FA Cup at the weekend.
The Reds are rated as an 11/5 (3.20) shot with Coral to bounce back with victory in north London, while the same firm offer 23/10 (3.30) that the match ends in stalemate.
Olivier Giroud has scored four goals in his last two matches for Arsene Wenger’s side and Coral’s 13/2 (7.50) quote for the France striker to add to that tally by bagging the opening goal here is appealing, while the 15/8 (2.88) on offer from the same firm for Giroud to score at any time is great value.
Liverpool, though, will believe that they have the tools to unlock Arsenal’s creaky defence and the 6/1 (7.0) quote from Coral for Luis Suarez – who has scored eight goals in his last eight matches for the Reds – to open the scoring is sure to attract support, while the same firm go 7/4 (2.75) that the Uruguay international notches at any time. With so much attacking talent on show, it is little surprise to see Coral go just 13/20 (1.65) on three or more goals to be scored here and both teams to hit the net is as short as 1/2 (1.50) with the same firm.
Arsenal will come into this match full of belief after morale-boosting wins over West Ham and Brighton and they should be supported at a juicy 5/4 (2.25) with Coral to edge an entertaining encounter, while the same firm’s 15/8 (2.88) quote for the in-form Olivier Giroud to grab a goal here is too good to miss.
