Leeds-Tottenham Betting Preview: Expect goals when Spurs visit Elland Road
Andre Villas-Boas' men have scored freely on their travels, and with the home crowd behind them, Al Hain-Cole also expects the hosts to hit the back of the net
Having claimed home victories over Everton and Southampton on their way to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup already this season, Leeds will hope to bag another Premier League scalp when Tottenham come to town.Spurs reached the FA Cup semi-finals last year, and will be keen to go one better this campaign as they attempt to bring the trophy back to White Hart Lane for the first time since 1991.
The intimidating atmosphere always makes Elland Road a difficult place to visit, so Paddy Power’s price of 4/1 (5.00) looks rather tempting for the hosts to pick up their seventh home win in the last nine matches. However, Andre Villas-Boas’ side have only lost once in 14 games, so it is no surprise to see them at odds of 4/6 (1.67) to continue their good form with a victory on Sunday.
The Londoners have drawn their last two consecutive matches, and you can get odds of 14/5 (3.80) on them racking up a hat-trick of stalemates in this one.
The visitors have provided plenty of memorable matches on the road already this season and their Portuguese coach’s attacking approach usually makes for an action-packed 90 minutes.
This positive mentality has seen them hit the back of the net in 14 of their 16 away games this season, as the abundance of talent available going forward usually makes up for any potential defensive mishaps.
Considering Neil Warnock’s men have only failed to score once in 20 matches in their own back yard, it seems safe backing both teams to score when Gareth Bale & Co. come to town, at odds of 4/7 (1.57).Leeds received a blow earlier on this week when leading goalscorer Luciano Becchio handed in a transfer request, and Warnock now faces a tough decision over whether the Argentine is in the right frame of mind to start on Sunday.
Should he not be selected, the Championship club will need other attacking players to step up to the plate, and fortunately they have one player who is bang in form.
Ross McCormack has so far failed to match his prolific return from last season, but with two goals in his last two games, he could be the man to fill Becchio’s boots, and the Scotland international offers excellent value at 12/5 (3.40) to score anytime.
