Brentford-Chelsea Betting Preview: Cup holders set to sting the Bees on Sunday
Rafael Benitez's side endured misery in the Capital One Cup in midweek, but Willie Duncan is backing the Blues to advance when their FA Cup defence continues on Sunday afternoon
Chelsea crashed out of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday after failing to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit at the hands of Swansea City and the Blues are set for more cup football this weekend when they continue their defence of the FA Cup against Brentford at Griffin Park on Sunday afternoon. The defending champions are available at just 1/4 (1.25) with Bet365 to shrug off the disappointment of Wednesday’s Capital One Cup exit and book their place in the fifth round of a competition which now, it would appear, represents the Blues’ only remaining realistic chance of winning silverware this term.
Brentford, though, will be keen not to just make up the numbers at Griffin Park this weekend and the League One high-flyers can be backed at a chunky 11/1 (12.0) with Bet365 to stun Chelsea here, while the same firm go 9/2 (5.50) that the Bees earn a replay at Stamford Bridge by claiming a draw. Chelsea ran out as emphatic 5-1 winners when they faced fellow Premier League side Southampton in the last round and that result is, perhaps, indicative of how seriously interim manager Rafael Benitez is treating this competition.
With that in mind, this looks to be an exceptionally tough test for Uwe Rosler’s side and it might be worth backing the Blues in Bet365’s handicap market.
Chelsea (-1) is available at a massively appealing 8/11 (1.72) with Bet365 this weekend and, given that Benitez’s side will be desperate to prove a point following an insipid display against Swansea City in midweek, it is a price which is worthy of support.Veteran Blues midfielder Frank Lampard has been in fine form in recent weeks, netting six goals in his last 10 matches and the juicy 5/1 (6.0) on offer from Bet365 for the Chelsea stalwart to open the scoring at the weekend is outstanding value and should be backed accordingly.
