Pete Nordsted: Finding value in the Both Teams to Score market

Pete Nordsted explains why backing the "No" outcome of this very popular market could pay dividends and gives his Premier League picks

There has been a lot written recently on the value of backing both teams to score and many would argue that this bet over the long-term offers no real value.

However, I believe that as always you have to do your due diligence and profile the teams involved and if the stats suggest that there is value then it is possibly worthwhile having the bet.

With the above in mind, I am now going to look for matches in the Premier League where I believe there is some value in backing the "No" on both teams to score and where there is an edge.

Newcastle take on Reading at St James' Park and both sides will be desperate for the points to alleviate their relegation worries. In Newcastle’s last 15 home matches both teams have scored in only six of these games.

In the case of Brian McDermott’s Reading, the stats are not as strong, however both teams have only found the net in five of their opening 11 away games. The "No" on both teams to score is odds-against and given the above this looks to offer value at 11/10 (2.10) with bet365.

Swansea take on Stoke City at Liberty stadium and when Michael Laudrup’s men have faced teams of Stoke’s grading both teams have not found the net in five of their last nine.

However, in general play it has to be said that the goals have flowed at both ends in nine of Swansea's last 15 home games.

In the case of Stoke though, we see a very big contrast to Swansea’s form and both teams have scored in only five of the Potters’ last 10 away games.

Also, since the start of the 2009/10 season when facing teams of Swansea's grade away from home, 13 of 17 matches have seen the "No" on both teams to score. This bet can be backed at 5/6 (1.83) with Bet 365 and again offers value given the above.

As always when following these system bets see if you can obtain the best odds possible and long term hopefully you will show a profit.
