Sunderland - Bolton Betting Preview: Hosts to progress in Stadium of Light replay

Sunderland - Bolton Betting Preview: Hosts to progress in Stadium of Light replay

Latest AC Milan-Barcelona Betting Preview: Why both teams to score is the best option Previous

A 2-2 draw in the FA Cup third round forced a repeat for the Black Cats and the Trotters, but Jamie Dickenson is backing Martin O'Neill's in-form side to win this time

Sunderland host Bolton Wanderers for their FA Cup third-round replay at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, 10 days after a 2-2 draw at the Reebok Stadium.

The Black Cats comprehensively beat West Ham at home at the weekend, and have been installed as the 4/6 (1.67) favourites with Paddy Power to win again in 90 minutes.

That price may not appear tantalising for a side who have won just five of 12 games on home soil in all competitions this season, but Martin O'Neill's side hit form to beat the Hammers 3-0 - instigated by a great long-range strike from Sebastian Larsson - and will want to build on that victory by progressing further in the cup.

Add in to the mix the fact that Sunderland are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Bolton, and a home win for the Premier League hosts against Championship opposition becomes more tempting.

Bolton have won just three times from their last 14 outings, and without a victory in three games they look unlikely to summon up a performance strong enough to qualify for the next weekend within 90 minutes here.

Odds of 9/2 (5.5) are available for Dougie Freedman's side to record an upset in the North-East, who are currently sitting in 16th in the second tier.

A repeat result of their initial FA Cup draw at the beginning of January can be backed at 13/5 (3.60).

Extra-time and penalties could follow if a stalemate ensues, with Sunderland heavily odds-on at 1/4 (1.25) to qualify for the next round, and visitors Bolton out at 5/2 (3.5).

Given Bolton were leading Sunderland 2-0 after an hour during the previous game in Lancashire, the away side shouldn't be underestimated and may well put up early resistance again this time.

Second-half goals from Connor Wickham and Craig Gardner forced a replay, and Sunderland may have to wait for another late showing here to see off the Trotters.

The 7/2 (4.5) price on offer for a draw at half-time followed by a Sunderland win at the end of 90 minutes is worth a punt given the hosts tendency to strike after the break.

Three of the Black Cats last four goals came after half-time, while two of Bolton's last three matches were level at the interval.
