Hearts - Hibernian Betting Preview: Home win is the value in Edinburgh derby

Hearts - Hibernian Betting Preview: Home win is the value in Edinburgh derby

Latest West Ham United-Tottenham Hotspur Betting Preview: Brilliant Bale can inspire Spurs again Previous

Pat Fenlon's men stunned Celtic at the weekend, but Willie Duncan is expecting derby day misery for the Hibees against John McGlynn's Jam Tarts at Tynecastle

Hibernian stunned Premier League leaders Celtic on Saturday and Pat Fenlon’s men will now set their sights on victory against capital rivals Heart of Midlothian when the two sides meet at Tynecastle Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Jam Tarts had the upper hand in meetings between the two sides last season, winning all four games including a historic 5-1 demolition of the Hibees in last year’s Scottish Cup Final and John McGlynn’s men are available at 11/10 (2.10) with William Hill to claim all three points against Hibs on Thursday.

Pat Fenlon’s men claimed their first victory in 13 meetings between the sides when David Wotherspoon’s deflected goal gave the Easter Road men victory in the Scottish Cup fourth round at the beginning of last month and Hibs can be backed at 23/10 (3.30) with William Hill to claim back-to-back victories over Hearts for the first time since 2009. The same firm also offer 23/10 (3.30) that the match ends in a draw.

Hibs have won just five of the last 25 meetings between the rivals – all by a 1-0 scoreline – and the Hibees can be backed at 9/1 (10.0) to claim a sixth successive 1-0 triumph over the Jam Tarts.

However, it is worth noting that Hibs have failed to score in any of their previous three visits to Tynecastle and the Jam Tarts can be backed at 7/1 (8.0) with William Hill to record a 1-0 win, while the same firm offer 10/1 (11.0) on a 2-0 triumph for the Jam Tarts – the outcome of the last two Tynecastle tussles between the sides.

Hibs’ top scorer Leigh Griffiths was on target for his side in their 1-0 victory over Celtic and the striker, who is on-loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is available at 11/2 (6.50) to break the deadlock on Thursday.

Goals have proved elusive for John McGlynn’s men at times this term, with only Dundee having scored fewer league goals than the Jam Tarts thus far, but midfielder Ryan Stevenson has scored three goals in his last three outings and is available at 13/2 (7.50) with William Hill to score first while striker John Sutton is chalked up at 11/2 (6.50) with the same firm to open the scoring for the Jam Tarts.

A tight match looks likely but, with a vociferous home support and a hugely impressive derby record behind them, Hearts are worthy of their favourites tag and should be backed at 11/10 (2.10) to begin the New Year with a win, while the 7/1 (8.0) for a 1-0 home win is the value selection here.
