Lloris, David Luiz & Dzeko - This week's Premier League fantasy football picks

Lloris, David Luiz & Dzeko - This week's Premier League fantasy football picks

Latest Porto-Malaga Betting Preview: Why backing Jackson Martinez to score looks a wise investment Previous

Despite having Theo Walcott in his team at the weekend, a poor defensive performance cost Jim Knight a profit. This week's team includes Juan Mata and Edin Dzeko

Theo Walcott's 36-point performance was not quite enough to get me into a cash position last weekend, thanks mostly to a poor performance from the defence that included Robert Huth and Asmir Begovic.

But with a full Premier League calendar on New Year's Day there's a chance to start the fantasy football year on a high.

Last week's winner netted a £191 win from just a £4 stake, which left me even more disappointed in the defensive third of my squad!

Goalkeeper

Hugo Lloris

Since establishing himself in the Tottenham first team, Hugo Lloris has been extremely impressive, especially from a fantasy football point of view, in December alone he scored 11 points on four separate occasions and a game against a Reading side who are really struggling is a perfect opportunity for another high score.

Defenders

David Luiz

Since Rafael Benitez's arrival at Stamford Bridge, David Luiz has been deployed a central midfielder rather than a defender but he is still listed as the later on Totel Football. This means not only does he have more chance of providing more assists but also any goals scored count for more points than a midfielders would.

Patrice Evra

A game against Wigan has normally been an enjoyable experience for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, six clean sheets in the last seven matches between the two mean including a United defender looks a shrewd move and with Patrice Evra already averaging almost six points a game, he fits the bill.

Chico

Swansea are normally quite defensively solid and they face an Aston Villa side who have failed to score in their last three matches and are really struggling with both injuries and confidence. Chico managed nine points against Reading and hopefully he'll be able to contribute a similar number of points against Paul Lambert's side.

Kieran Gibbs

The Arsenal full back has had a good run in the Gunners team and scored well against West Brom, Wigan and Reading in recent weeks. With just one booking to his name this season his points average is a good one and a trip to Southampton could bring further success.

Midfielders

Marouane Fellaini

The fact that Marouane Fellaini has missed much of the festive football is actually a reason for including the Belgium international this week. Unlike the majority of his Everton team-mates he will be fresh following his suspension and considering how well he performed in the first half of the season it's worth backing him to pick up where he left off.

Anthony Pilkington

With two assists and four goals to his name so far this season, Anthony Pilkington has been an important part of Norwich's success.

The midfielder has a good disciplinary record and against a West Ham side who have lost three of their last four matches, he could amass another decent points total against the Hammers.

Juan Mata

The Spain international has become a mainstay of many Premier League fantasy football teams and it's easy to see why when he's already notched up seven goals and seven assists for the Blues. A London derby against QPR should allow his plenty of chances to increase those numbers.

Theo Walcott

Similar to David Luiz, Theo Walcott is being deployed in a more attacking role than his Totel Football listing. Picking him last week proved a good move for the points total. He fired a hat-trick against Newcastle and a return to former club Southampton could see the 23-year-old further state his case for leading the Arsenal line on a regular basis.

Edin Dzeko

If Roberto Mancini was in doubt about who to field in attack against Stoke then Edin Dzeko certainly staked his claim against Norwich with two goals and 13 Totel Football points.

Although Stoke don't often leak many goals the Manchester City frontman looks in good form and is worth backing to increase his tally of eight Premier League goals against the Potters.

Robin van Persie

Despite being named on the bench against West Brom at the weekend, Robin van Persie still found the back of the net and when the Netherlands international is in such fine form there's no way I can leave him out of this week's team.
